Meet Danielle!
Danielle Skeete is one of our Training Facilitators!
She holds a M.Sc. in the Management of Tropical Environments from The University of the West Indies (U.W.I.), St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad; and a B.Sc. in Chemistry with Honours, in addition to a Certificate in Project Planning and Implementation.
Danielle contributes a wealth of experience as follows:
- Programme Officer at the Department of Emergency Management in Barbados since 2011.
- Head of Unit/ Technical Coordinator and Programme Officer of the Institutional Support and Capacity Building for Disaster Management in the Caribbean Project, financed under the 9th and 10th European Development Funds (EDF) and implemented by the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) formerly CDERA.
- Project/Administrative Officer and Interim Project Coordinator, assigned to the Caribbean Hotel Association (CHA) under the Caribbean Regional Sustainable Tourism Development Programme, which was financed by the 8th European Development Fund (EDF). The programme aimed to contribute to the economic growth of and poverty alleviation in CARIFORUM countries through increased competitiveness and sustainability of the Caribbean tourism sector.
- Project Assistant - Caribbean Hotel Environmental Management Initiative (CHEMI), a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded project, to introduce the concept of environmental management in small hotels in Barbados and six Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) countries, January 2003 - May 2004.
- Provided technical support to CHEMI properties in the area of environmental management systems.
- Co-assisted in the coordination of CHEMI seminars, workshops and training sessions.
- Provided on-property assistance to 6 CHEMI hotels in the area of Environmental Management Systems and in establishing data collection systems for Green Globe 21 benchmarking, Dominica (2003). Four (4) of these hotels successfully attained the Green Globe 21 benchmarking standard.
- Co-managed the Caribbean Alliance for Sustainable Tourism’s (CAST) booths, “Environmental Best Practices in Action” at Green Expo, October 2003 at Sherbourne Conference Centre, Barbados and at the annual CHA Caribbean Hotel Industry Conference (CHIC), June 2003 in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
- Shadow auditor for Small Hotel Environmental Assessments conducted for Palm Island Resort, August 2003 on Palm Island in the Grenadines and for the Fort Young Hotel, July 2003 in Dominica.
- Coordinated the execution of several half day assessments referred to as Environmental Walk-Throughs (EWTs).
- Second Marker – University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, for Semester II Examinations 2006 - 2007 in ENVT 6123 – Sustainable Tourism in the Coastal Zone.
- Administrative/Technical Consultant to Droiterre Inc. during the First Intensive Training Workshop on Trade and the Environment. (Barbados, 22nd – 24th May 2006).
- Research Consultant – South Pacific Applied Geoscience Commission (SOPAC), November 2003- February 2004. Provided all data and information required for 100% completion of an environmental vulnerability data profile for Barbados using EVI data requirements for the 54 EVI indicators and additional proxy indicators developed for the Demonstration EVI.
- Teacher of Integrated Science and Mathematics to students preparing for O'levels/CXC – Barbados School Leaving examinations.
- Emergency Evacuation Committee Member of the Deighton Griffith School in Barbados.
